The Buff® Skyrunner® World Series 2007

The 2007 Buff® Skyrunner® World Series, now in it’s fourth year in partnership with Buff, thanks to significant international relations, now looks positively towards the future. In fact, in 2008, the aim is to maximize collaboration with the international mountain sports federations, including the IUAA and IOC channels.

Horizons too, will extend to even more new countries to include both new and old races with the object of consolidating the continued growth of the skyrunning movement - currently enjoying considerable attention from the media, a sign, perhaps, that the sport is “mature” at last and, with more than 20,000 participants, has finally come out of the niche it has often been relegated to.

All eyes will be on the great 2006 champions who are ready to take up the challenge again this year: the Scots runner Angela Mudge and the Mexican, Ricardo Mejia. It’s a pleasure to note that other nations are starting to become competitive in this sports discipline and it would come as no surprise if a few contenders were to come from Malaysia or Japan and, if they can refine their training technique, could easily aim high.

With two races each in both Italy and Spain, the two strongest skyrunning territories, national athletes seem favoured. However, the strong field of local competitors makes for a tough challenge which even top runners will have to battle with to triumph in this prestigious event.

A big thanks to all participants, partners and organizers who, once again, honour the Buff® Skyrunner® World Series, contributing to the continued growth of the skyrunning movement.

The Buff® SkyRunner® World Series have become, for many of us, a way of tasting life. After several years running through magnificent landscapes, climbing spectacular mountains and discovering diverse cultures… the best thing about living the SkyRunner experience are the relationships you forge with everybody involved: athletes, organisers, press and enthusiasts. For the fourth year running, the world ski-mountaineering series is looking good. The calibre of athletes is improving day by day. Race organisation is constantly more efficient. It’s the series that’s becoming a true benchmark.

That’s why we’re proud to launch the 2007 series. We’re wild about it. We’re telling anyone who wants to know, come and discover an action-packed sport – it’s respectful of the environment, reaches out to other world cultures – get involved!
